A programmer who left his job to start a business used Claude Code (Anthropic's AI coding assistant) to build an automated video production tool in one month, gaining 90K followers and over 10K in commissions in a single month. This shows that AI coding tools have enabled solo developers to complete the full chain from product development to commercial monetization alone.
What this is
Dudu MD, a programmer with 10 years of experience, has been an independent entrepreneur for about 900 days after leaving his job. This year, he pivoted from the ComfyUI (AI image workflow tool) track to AI coding and agents (AI programs capable of autonomously executing multi-step tasks). In April, he used Claude Code to develop a desktop application called Storybound. Users drop in copy, and the software automatically handles rewriting, image matching, voiceover, and compositing—producing a finished video in 15–20 minutes.
He used this tool to run book recommendation affiliate marketing on WeChat Channels, gaining 90K followers in April alone, with 15 million views, over 20K GMV, and 10K+ in commissions. The software itself sells licenses (monthly/yearly/perpetual), and has already achieved profitability. He's also doing enterprise AI training delivery, with overall monthly income of "tens of thousands" (RMB).
Industry view
We notice two signals worth watching. First, AI coding tools are turning people who "understand code + understand business" into the most efficient solo operator form—this creator used Claude Code to complete in one month what might have previously required a small team. His own judgment confirms this: once programmers master AI coding tools, their efficiency multiplier is several times that of non-programmers, because the ability to troubleshoot and understand system architecture remains.
Second, he voluntarily exited from an offline company, choosing a loose collaboration model of "no salary, project-based revenue share," which suggests that for solo developers, the corporate organizational form is shifting from "necessary vehicle" to "optional."
But the risks are equally obvious. His own retrospective admits that last year's ComfyUI track, once he stopped investing effort, income immediately dropped to zero—this isn't true compound interest. His current Storybound similarly depends on WeChat Channels platform rules; if the platform changes, income could likewise go to zero. Additionally, he pulled consecutive all-nighters with sleep and fitness completely out of control—this solo model's physical toll is unsustainable.
Impact on regular people
For enterprise IT: AI coding tools lower the barrier for internal tool development. Business personnel plus an AI coding assistant might solve problems faster than submitting requirements and waiting for scheduling.
For individual careers: The core competitive advantage of programmers is no longer "knowing how to write code," but "knowing how to use AI tools to turn ideas into products"—pure execution-level coding ability is depreciating.
For the consumer market: Automated content production tools further lower barriers to entry in video commerce and similar tracks, but homogeneous competition will arrive faster as well.
